Fear, Loathing, and Dreadlocks in the Dentist's Office

This morning I went in for a consultation with the dentist, and he didn't make it very pleasant. "Don't worry," he said, "we're not going to put you all the way to sleep."

?!?! not ALL THE WAY to sleep ?!?!?

But in the waiting room, I saw a girl with the best dreadlocks. They were bleached just on the ends and had jewels and other little trinkets woven in them. Even my mom thought they were awesome. Girl with the dreadlocks, if by some crazy twist of fate you're reading this, well, you and I are totally destined to become friends.

Afterward, much like the main character in Eleanor Rigby by Douglas Coupland (a book which, if you haven't, you should definitely read!), I decided to make this wisdom teeth thing as pleasant as possible so I did a little bit of errand-running.

I went to Barnes & Noble to try for a Moleskine planner so I can organize my life, but pretty much the entire planet is sold out, so I got a pretty yellow fake croco one instead. And Nylon, Preen, and something called 4C, which looked really interesting. I'll have to do a post on it later because the photography looks ultra-promising.

Also, begged, borrowed, or stole: The Collected Stories of Richard Yates, who is one of my favorite authors, Twilight of the Superheroes by Deborah Eisenberg, and the movies Once, The Namesake, and La Vie En Rose, a film about the life of Edith Piaf.

It's kind of like a breakup survival kit, except replace the chocolate with tomato soup and it's my teeth I'm breaking up with.

Oh, and when I got home my little brother was running around in a backpack, so I had to take a photo. Lately, he's been making his "pirate" face in photos, so I was lucky to be graced with a super-fake smile.

In conclusion, this is my rambling way of saying I may be posting over the next few days, I may not. Knowing me, I probably will. A lot. But I'm peacing for now.

If you give the dentist *your* best pirate face, he might be willing to put you all the way asleep next time.
I don't know why dreads are so interesting, but they are!

your little bro is insanely cute, and I went to the dentist yesterday so I feel your pain. Freakin dental hygienist nearly killed me.

dentists are closet sadists who hate administering anasthesia-

u wonder if it comes out of their salary or something?!

Your brother is really cute & on the subject of dentists, I'm pretty sure everyone hates going to see them, even just for checkups.

Not going to lie: that refusal to put me all the way under is what's keeping me from getting my wisdom teeth out, even though it's wrecking my jaw. I blame my mom: she was undergoing a different procedure, but they used the same anesthesia and she WOKE UP. And they didn't realise that she was awake until she started screaming.

Um .... that probably wasn't the best story to tell. Really, really insist that they give you more than they think you'll need, and you should be fine.

Also: add me to the list of people who are about to die from the cuteness radiating from your brother!

Seriously! I went to Borders AND B&N and not Moleskine planner. There are millions of them when you don't want one but when you do, never any around!

When I went for my wisdom teeth consultation the dentist said: quote- we have to put you completely under because it is going to be a real blood show- end quote.

thanx

I love your little brother! And I hope you're feeling better.

You can sign up for a free subscription to Nylon from UO. I'm not positive about this but you should try it.

Interesting story, did they put you to sleep enough though?

Dreads are amazing...
