Back to School...

Meet my new lamp! My friends Caitlin and Eileen were in need of mugs and miniskirts, respectively, so today I introduced them to one of my favorite thrift stores in Bowling Green, the Clothes Lion. It's such a great place, with more knick-knacky finds than anything else, including an Art Deco theater chair (for a mere $175) and tons of Illinois license plates for some reason. I picked this up because I was in need of something to illuminate my desk. My room is all done up in old things--my grandmother recently moved house and let me have at all her extra vases and the like and I'm really into crazy flea market things anyway. I think when I get my own place I'm not going to have anything new.

Afterward we went to a show that featured one really bad band and one good band and I just spent an hour trying to decide what to wear tomorrow, my first day of classes. It's totally silly, I know, but I feel like most of the ones I'm going to take are going to be the intimate, centered-around-discussion kind, and so there's a bit of pressure. I ended up picking out the kind of thing I wear everyday. My first class is not until 11 o'clock and it's called Speculative Fiction, which means I won't be reading the Odyssey. I'm pretty excited about that.

Oh, and thanks for putting up with my LiLo impression in the last post. I'm really not a bad person. And interesting writings will follow.

i have a lamp like that and love it, but a word of caution: be careful. I was sitting on my dresser putting on makeup and leaned over and burned my stomach. I know, I'm the idiot, but a word of caution from me to you lol

speculative fiction classes and the like are what makes me look forward to college. I should start counting down the days.

Lilo?
Did you get a spray tan while drinking redbulls and wearing black leggings?

Heather said...

haha, no, just broadcasted my drinking problem. They tried to make me go to rehab, I said no, no, no. Wait. Which one is that again?

mugs and miniskirts would make a great title. speculative fiction. i want to hear about that one.

It’s a very nice lamp but you should get a nice lamp shade for it.

And I think my dad taught a speculative fiction course at one time or another.

That lamp is very cool. Don't ever look at it while it is on, though, or you will blink purple and green.

Ditto on not having any new furniture when I have my own place. Love the lamp. And as I was telling The Iron Chic, I took a feminist sci-fi literature class last year, speculative fiction sounds just as interesting.

That's cute, almost looks like you could keep some jewelry in the base.
The boy and I were talking about furniture and such for when we move out last night and he wants everything to be new, his mom is one of those people who go way overboard on all the antique stuff, I just said it's not going to happen.

I've always planned my first day of school outfits. When I was little, I never understood why my friends didn't haha! So don't feel silly because I'm sure we all do it. HA!

Have fun with your class! I had to read the Odyssey last year and boy was it ultra boring. We had to talk mythology for 9th grade English. So it was forced upon me.
